This portrait is of Levi Roots, a British entrepreneur who gained widespread fame after appearing on the UK television programme Dragon's Den. The painting references 16th century portraiture both technically and in composition. The painting is a part of a series of 'Merchant' portraits which portray prominent business men and women exploring the themes of success and power within modern day Britain. Levi was the founder of Reggae Reggae Sauce. The colours throughout the painting echoes the bold colour scheme of the sauce label and the guitar references Levi's musical past. Sittings took place in Moxon's London studio in early 2020.
